Daft Punk has been commemorating the tenth anniversary of their fourth and final studio album, Random Access Memories. The French electronic duo has been interviewing its collaborators in a video series called Memory Tapes.
Among the past interviews are Julian Casablancas, Nile Rogers, Chilly Gonzales and now, Pharrell Williams. In the installment, Daft Punk shares archived footage showing Pharrell’s reaction to hearing the completed versions of “Get Lucky” and “Lose Yourself to Dance” for the first time.
The singer explains that he initially thought he was only recording voice demos that another singer would later mimic, not knowing his own vocals would actually be included in the song.
He said that he doesn’t even remember writing the lyrics to the two songs because they were all in “such a trance.”
“Wow,” he says after hearing “Lose Yourself to Dance.” “Those are my only words.”
