“Barbie” director and co-writer Greta Gerwig — who also wrote and directed “Lady Bird” and 2019’s “Little Women” — blew out 40 candles on her birthday cake on Aug. 4. It’s been a big year for the star:

In 2023, she gave birth to her second child with partner Noah Baumbach and in July, she broke a few records with “Barbie,” scoring the biggest opening weekend of 2023 so far as well as shattering the first weekend earnings record for a film directed by a woman thanks to the movie’s $162 million North American box office haul.
