Reese Witherspoon has revealed her September book club pick and it sounds seriously gripping. The book of the month is Mother-Daughter Murder Night by Nina Simon, a murder mystery involving three generations of fierce, independent women all seeking to uncover the truth about a tragedy in their town.

As Witherspoon notes, September can be a busy time with getting the kids back to school and trying to get back into the swing of things after summer but it’s also a great time to pick up a new book — there’s nothing like curling up with a good book as the weather begins to cool down.

“You guys, I love this book,” Witherspoon said of Simon’s book in an Instagram post revealing her latest pick. “It is a mystery set in a small coastal California town and it involves three generations of women from the Rubicon family. The grandmother, Lana, the daughter, Beth, and the granddaughter, Jack.”

Jack happens upon a dead body while kayaking and soon becomes a suspect in the murder. Lana, who is recovering from cancer, springs into action despite her daughter’s insistence that she focus on her health. “I really, really loved the grandmother Lana. She is this spitfire, great character who’s dressed to the nines,” says Witherspoon.

As the book’s twists and turns deepen, the family unearth secrets about their town and uncover more than they ever knew about their relationships with each other.
