The celebs are heaping praise on our Lionesses after their incredible Women’s World Cup victory, which has sent them sailing through to the semi-final.

England came from behind to beat Colombia 2-1 in Sydney on Saturday (August 12), with goals from Leicy Santos and Alessia Russo.

Piers Morgan and Gary Lineker have led the stars congratulating them, branding their performance ‘perfect’.

Taking to social media to express his pride, controversial broadcaster Piers, 58, had some fighting talk as the Lionesses gear up to play Australia next week.

‘Perfect. You know what to do @Lionesses – make Ashes of the Matildas’, he tweeted.

Sports pundit Gary, 62, had some more words of encouragement.

‘Victory again for @Lionesses and they’re through to the semifinals. This is a side that knows how to win. Marvellous!’, he wrote.

Even the Royal Family wanted to show their appreciation for the England squad, with the Prince and Princess of Wales tweeting: ‘Bring on the semi-finals! A hard-fought win, well done @Lionesses’.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, 60, also seems pretty certain that the Lionesses will be lifting the World Cup trophy.

‘Great team effort from the @Lionesses. Resilient performance. All eyes on the semi-final now… It’s coming home!’, he said.

British actress Heather Peace, 48, added: ‘What a game. End to end. Totally nerve wracking. @Lionesses were so strong to hold onto their lead against a brilliant Colombian team’.

‘It just makes it so much more exciting so for me I can’t wait to get going against Australia. It’s going to be a packed out stadium with so many Australian fans but we know if we play at our best, we are unstoppable so hopefully we’ll be able to bring that.’

The Lionesses will take on co-hosts Australia next on Wednesday (August 16) at 11:00am BST, with the game streamed live on BBC.

This will mark the Lionesses’ third World Cup semi-final after being defeated by the USA in 2019 and Japan in 2015, so let’s hope it’ll be third time lucky…
