Last year, Patta and Tommy Hilfiger came together to celebrate Black unity, and now the duo is back with a capsule collection centered around the golden age of New York City hip-hop. In the 1990s, NYC was a melting pot of lyrical prowess, birthing seminal creatives like Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, Mase, Biggie, and many more, and now this plays as the inspiration for Patta and Tommy Hilfiger to celebrate their streetwear roots.
To capture this, the two stalwarts worked with Wiki, MIKE, and The Alchemist to create a music video shot by director Nicholas Stafford Briggs and lifestyle photographer Quil Lemons that captures the spirit of New York hip-hop and, of course, the collaborative collection. Set in the Big Apple, the music video sees Wiki and MIKE deliver a new song that is penned exclusively for this drop, which will also be available on a 12” vinyl alongside the clothing.
The clothes in question include a mixture of garments fit for any ’90s throwback session. Think Varsity Jackets adorned with “1993” dates and dual-branding in a preppy colorway of navy and yellow, emblematically-branded T-shirts and sweaters embedded with collegiate undertones synonymous with Tommy Hilfiger, and even a Patta take on a quintessential classic Tommy Hilfiger jacket, it being the yellow, red, and navy Tommy Sports number.
From epochal branding to cuts and colors that perfectly exude that ’90s feel, everything the duo has touched is spot on. Athletics inspirations adorn forest green hoodies and classic white tees, unifying globes and flags decorate the rear of a green tee, and quarter-zips are done up in more collegiate undertones.
The Patta x Tommy collection will be available on pattaxtommy.com and at Patta Chapter stores from December 2, and at select global retailers on December 9. Patta and Tommy will also be hosting a pop-up from December 2-3 at 53B Stanton Street in New York. Take a closer look at the video above, where you’ll be able to spot a number of upcoming pieces from the collection.
