There’s still several weeks of the Summer season to go, and to get into the spirit of the sunniest time of the year, New Balance has engineered a refreshing 990v5 colorway that appears to be inspired by popsicles. This latest iteration from the Boston-based brand has surfaced not so far after the reveal of its monochromatic collaboration with AURALEE.
The overall design of this installment is reliant on a three-toned gradient effect that immediately recalls memories of the aesthetic of a Firecracker popsicle. Like the frozen treat, the front ends of the toe boxes are dripped with a bold red hue and come offset by an icy baby blue mid-foot, the latter of which hosts white “N” logos that are rimmed with red. As you move farther down towards the rear, you’ll notice that the collar molds, mesh underlays and suede overlays get more saturated and dial to a slightly darker tint of blue which speaks even further to the tri-colored ice cream stick’s appearance. From there, more hits of red pop out through the American flag on the tongues as well as the 990v5 shield and “NB” embellishments on the back. Midsoles split between a gray ENCAP on the heels and white forefoot while the a baby blue rubber panel sits adjacent.
If interested, you can cop these 990v5s right now via retailers like Oneness for $185 USD.
Elsewhere in sneaker news, The Apartment and New Balance recently unveiled a “Mustard Dip” 574 collaboration.
