Outerwear specialist Norwegian Rain is celebrating 10 years of creating tailor-sharp, Tokyo-inspired raincoats by collaborating on two limited-edition pieces with field watch brand Unimatic.
The watch presents Unimatic’s adopted military-style silhouette in both brushed stainless steel (Modello Uno U1-NRN) and with a black DLC coating (Modello Uno U1- NR) using a bezel with a simple black insert.
Where the limited editions really stand out is on its dial, a sandwich of individually oxidised, and therefore unique, copper with cutout markings revealing a contrasting, brushed raw copper blank underneath. The contrast is given further three-dimensionality by using brushed copper skeletonised hands.
The oxidisation process takes in bright green hues, copper tones and deep mottled black and everything in between. The dial has also been ‘fixed’ so that the patina does not change over time.
A Roman numeral X replaces the 10 o’clock hour marker in a subtle nod to Norwegian Rain’s anniversary celebrations, something also referenced on the engraved caseback.
The Modello Uno U1-NRN, of which 39 pieces will be made, is supplied on a stainless steel bracelet while the Modello Uno U1- NR, of which 54 pieces will be made, is presented on a black nylon fabric strap with matching brushed black DLC-coated steel hardware.
Both watches drop on February 22 via Unimatic, Norwegian Rain and Hodinkee as well as Norwegian Rain’s stores in Paris, Tokyo, Oslo and Bergen priced $983 USD (812 Euros) minus taxes.
Elsewhere in watches, Ikepod calls on New York artist to create Skaters in the Sky limited edition.
