A new trailer for the upcoming Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins was released on Monday, diving deeper into the origins of the iconic ninja assassin Snake Eyes from the G.I. Joe franchise.

Henry Golding stars as the titular character, described as “a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent.”

“Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home,” the official synopsis continues. “But, when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested – even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.”

The new trailer opens with Golding winning an intense fighting match against a much bigger opponent. Golding then saves the life of a member of the secretive Arashikage clan and is embraced by the 600-year-old warriors.

The latest teaser also gives viewers a closer glimpse at the evil Cobra organization and its operatives, including Baroness played by Úrsula Corberó. Other film stars include Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta and Iko Uwais as Hard Master.

Directed by Robert Schwentke, the film is set to release in theaters on July 23.
