Nearly two years ago, a handful of wealthy families were exposed as being part of an admissions scam involving elite colleges and universities. The once behind-the-scenes drama unfolded rapidly to the public as famous parents, like actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, were connected to the scandal and eventually sentenced to jail time. Many questions still remain for people who kept tabs on the seedy events, and Netflix hopes to answer them with the Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal documentary debut on March 17.
Chris Smith and Jon Karmen are the filmmakers behind the documentary, and they’re in the business of uncovering unsavory truths. You might remember their work on the Fyre film that shook Netflix viewers back in 2019. Once again, the deception runs deep, as evidenced through re-creations of actual conversations placed between privileged parents and Rick Singer, the man at the center of the admissions scandal. Netflix dropped the movie’s trailer on March 1 to give us an insight into the madness before catching the full film in a few weeks. Watch it above.
