Martin Scorsese‘s adaptation of Killers of the Flower Moon is one of this year’s most anticipated movies but there’s no need to wait around to uncover the gripping plot of the film which will star Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Brendan Fraser. David Gran’s best-selling novel of the same name was released in 2017 and garnered critical acclaim.
The book, and the movie, is a true story that centers on a series of murders of members of the Osage nation in Oklahoma during the 1920s. At the time, indigenous members of the Native American tribe were living affluent lives after oil was discovered on their land until, one by one, inheritors became the victims of murder. A young J. Edgar Hoover is called in to investigate and the murder plot becomes a key investigation in the early formation of the FBI.
The book made Grann, a journalist for The New Yorker, a New York Times best-seller and a National Book Award finalist. And, best of all, it is on sale on Amazon for just $11.51 in paperback or $13.99 on Kindle.
Scorsese’s film premiered at Cannes Film Festival in May to a nine minute standing ovation. It will hit theaters on October 20 before premiering on Apple TV+ at a not-yet-specified date. Sign up for a 7-day free trial on Apple TV+ below, after which you will pay just $6.99 a month.
The movie is DiCaprio’s ninth collaboration with Scorsese and De Niro’s eleventh. The two are often considered to be mainstays of Scorsese’s work the three last worked together on The Audition in 2015. Killers of the Flower Moon will also be a breakout role for Lily Gladstone, an actor of Blackfeet and Nimíipuu heritage who, until now, has mainly appeared in indie films.
