Jonah Hill’s clothing brand has been slammed for sharing products after texts he allegedly sent to his ex-girlfriend went viral.
The 39-year-old surf instructor – Sarah Brady – put the Superbad star, also 39, on blast after she posted text messages she said they exchanged while arguing as a couple.
In the messages that were screenshot and posted on Instagram, Jonah was seemingly laying down his boundaries when it came to his ‘romantic partnership’.
Alleged to be sent from the A-lister on December 2, 2021, the Instagram story rollout included a lengthy text in which it appeared Hill was outlining his ‘plain and simple’ needs.
Now, the 21 Jump Street’s clothing line Meaningful Existence is under fire over a slogan written on one of its products. A cap featuring the words ‘Complete Unrelenting Control’ was shared by the brand’s Instagram on Friday.
Many people saw this as bad timing considering the headlines Hill’s alleged texts were making.
Approached by Metro.co.uk for comment, Refuge – a charity which supportswomen and their children affected by domestic abuse – were not able to speak directly on Hill, but said in a statement: ‘Coercive and controlling behaviour is an insidious form of domestic abuse where a perpetrator uses a pattern of behaviour over time to exert power and control over a partner.
‘This was rightly recognised as a form of domestic abuse and made illegal in 2015.’
The statement continued: ‘There has been a lot of misinformation this weekend on what boundaries within a relationship are and what they look like. I want to be clear that if your partner tells you who you’re allowed to spend time with or how you use your social media, that is not setting a boundary – it’s control, and could be abuse.’
Posted alongside text that read: ‘see the misuse of the term “boundaries”?’, Sarah shared the text that featured a list of qualities it appeared she had been asking of him.
Hill’s ‘simple needs’ shown in the screenshot read: ‘If you need: surfing with men, boundaryless inappropriate friendships with men, to model, to post pictures of yourself in a bathing suit, to post sexual pictures, friendships with women who are in unstable places and from your wild recent past beyond getting a lunch or coffee or something respectful I am not the right partner for you.
‘If these things bring you to a place of happiness I support it and there will be no hard feelings. These are my boundaries for romantic partnership
‘My boundaries with you based on how these things have hurt our trust [sic].’
Updating fans as to why she was choosing to share the information, she revealed she wanted to post things as a ‘warning to all girls.’
Sarah explained: ‘If your partner is talking to you like this, make an exit plan,’ she penned beside a screengrab that appeared to show the actor complaining about social media photos featuring her ‘a** in a thong.’
She wrote: ‘Call me if you need an ear.’
