ISSEY MIYAKE has opened a new store in Ginza, Tokyo – adding to both the design and business legacy of the late visionary designer.

Titled ISSEY MIYAKE GINZA / 442, the Gasuto District Street located store derives its name from the designer’s address. But what really makes the store stand out is its fusion of refinement, modernity and lighthearted allure. Designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, the store features a modular construction with floating aluminum walls, white walls and an industrial-style light beige floor. The space’s intricately placed rectangular mirrors, aluminum display tables, aluminum clothing racks and overall muted design scheme are juxtaposed by the multicolored floating Miyake garments throughout the space.

The four-story store aptly showcases the entire Issey Miyake brand – including both menswear and womenswear across its multiple lines.

“Clothes are floating in the air. A strip of aluminum wall pierces through the space. This futuristic space represents Issey Miyake’s innovative approach to clothing and its philosophy,” said Yoshioka. “This space, designed with the elements created by molding ecologically sustainable recycled aluminum using special manufacturing techniques, creates a space that is minimalistic yet formative and futuristic.”
