Michelle Yeoh was beaming as she won big at the Oscars, taking home the trophy for best actress.
The 60-year-old was met with critical acclaim for her role as Evelyn in Everything Everywhere All At Once, which swept the board at this year’s ceremony.
The Malaysian-born icon was crowned best actress for her portrayal, making history as the first Asian star to collect the gong.
She beat out stiff competition from Michelle Williams, Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough and Ana de Armas.
Appearing on stage in an intricate white gown, she proudly told the crowd: ‘For all the little boys and girls who look like me, this is a beacon of hope and possibilities. This is proof [to] dream big, dreams do come true.
‘Ladies, never let anyone tell you you are past your prime. Never give up.
‘I wouldn’t be standing here tonight without the Daniels [directors], without A24, without my amazing cast and crew, without everyone who was involved with Everything Everywhere All At Once.’
Gathering her composure, Michelle offered a message to her mother, continuing: ‘I have to dedicate this to my mom, all the moms in the world because they are really the superheroes, and without them none of us would be here tonight.
‘She’s 84, and I’m taking this home to her. She’s watching right now in Malaysia with my family and friends. I love you guys, I’m bringing this home to you.
‘And also to my extended family in Hong Kong, where I started my career. Thank you for letting me stand on your shoulders, giving me a leg up so I can be here today.’
She added: ‘Thank you to the Academy. This is history in the making.’
The trophy is just the latest in a string of awards that Michelle has picked up for her role in the sci-fi adventure flick, winning a Golden Globe and SAG award earlier this year.
Elsewhere, Everything Everywhere All At Once took home many of the big statues available on the night, including the best supporting actor award for Ke Huy Quan earlier in the night.
Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert – known professionally as the Daniels – walked away with the best director award, as well as overall best picture.
Jamie Lee Curtis, who played IRS auditor Deirdre Beaubeirdra, also nabbed her first ever Academy award for the role, and sobbed on stage during her speech.
The screen queen began by giving her ‘bae’, Michelle, a shout-out, before explaining: ‘I know it looks like I am standing up here on my own but I am not.
‘There are hundreds of people and hundreds of people. We just won an Oscar. To my family, my beautiful husband, Christopher Guest, my daughters, Annie and Ruby, my sister Kelly – we just won an Oscar.
‘To all of the people who have supported the genre movie’s that I have made for hundreds and hundreds of thousands, we just won an Oscar together.’
Looking up to the sky, she mentioned her parents, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, adding through tears: ‘And my mother and father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories.
‘I just won an Oscar.’
