Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection was inspired by the English poet, painter and printmaker William Blake, emphasizing imagination as the ultimate form of escapism. The collection revolved around lightness, air and water as a means of showcasing beauty that emerges from darkness.

In typical McQueen menswear fashion, tailoring is the focal point, presenting a number of refined suits that rest against the body with the utmost attention to form. This collection also saw a casual take on the traditional menswear suit with a few updated features– a single-breasted tailored jacket with slashed sleeves and spiral silver zip detailing expanded the brand’s typical tailoring cadence, while the usage of zipper detailing was added to the front of another single-breasted jacket in ice pink wool.

The highlights of the collection were the final few looks, illustrating that menswear can also be couture. A sleeveless single-breasted tailored tuxedo jacket with exploded ruffles in black wool and poly faille and slim trousers with a tonal satin side stripe elevated men’s evening wear. The usage of ruffles expanded to another soft printed top with matching trousers, in addition to a black-doubled breasted coat.

Stealing the collection and invoking the best of the English poet was a t-shirt dress with a William Blake Dante multicolored embroidered bodice and a turquoise ombre skirt in shredded chiffon, tulle and organza.
