Designer Nicole McLaughlin has earned a significant following for her ability to create out-of-the-ordinary designs that are often playful in nature and lean on a DIY aesthetic. Following her time designing at Reebok, she has gone on to work with a range of footwear brands, producing one-of-a-kind projects with the likes of Vault by Vans, Diemme and more. Now, she has teamed up with HOKA to introduce its latest silhouette — the MAFATE THREE2 — with a twist.
The MAFATE THREE2 arrives as a combination of MAFATE 2 and the MAFATE 3, modernizing the two with a street-ready look that utilizes a quick-lace system and a Vibram sole unit. For McLaughlin’s take on the new style, a gaiter has been applied, raising its collar to effectively convert it into a high-top. The gaiter appears in black with red and neon green stitching accenting it alongside blue HOKA and Nicole McLaughlin tags. Glancing underneath the gaiter, the upper of the shoe appears in gray and yellow with black and white lines reaching across the shoe. Lastly, the sizable sole unit leans on red with bits of yellow contrast also appearing.
While the HOKA MAFATE THREE2 is set to make its in-line debut on October 27, Nicole McLaughlin’s gaiter-equipped collaboration will follow shortly after as it touches down on shelves starting November 3. Stay tuned for updates regarding the launch procedure and for additional looks at the unique pair.
