Ed Sheeran can always rely on his doting wife to bring him back down-to-earth after her honest, and perhaps brutal, comments about his famous face.
The Shape Of You hitmaker has been married to his childhood sweetheart, Cherry Seaborn, since 2019, with the couple tying the knot in a secret Christmas ceremony.
Since then, they’ve expanded their family welcoming two children – daughter Lyra, two, and Jupiter, nine months, and are still travelling around the world as the popstar continues touring.
It seems that since becoming a family man, the Bad Habits singer, 32, has formed a close bond with babies in general, and they’re drawn to one thing in particular.
‘Babies love Ed, because he’s got an unusual face,’ Cherry, 30, told Rolling Stone in a hilariously random remark.
Ed might just be one of the most recognisable ginger men on the planet after all – sorry, Prince Harry!
Ed also opened up about his body image issues after rising to fame in an era where One Direction and Justin Bieber existed, and ‘being compared to every popstar’.
‘I’m like, “Well, why don’t I have a six pack” And I was like, “Oh, because you love kebabs and drink beer”. Then you do songs with Justin Bieber and Shawn Mendes. All these people have fantastic figures. And I was always like, “Well, why am I so … fat?”‘ he said.
His number one fans all around the world – babies, of course – will soon be rocked to sleep by Ed’s new music, as he’s set to release his fifth album ‘-’ (Subtract) in May.
The album promises to be the singer’s most personal yet, featuring songs about his battle with depression, the death of his best friend Jamal Edwards and also Cherry’s health battle after she was diagnosed with a tumour during her pregnancy with Jupiter.
Cherry learned of the tumour in February 2022, shortly before Edwards’ death, but was told that the surgery needed to remove it couldn’t happen until after she gave birth – she was six months pregnant at the time.
It was suggested that she could deliver the baby early but she ended up carrying her second child to full term and successfully had the surgery last June instead, remarkably on the morning of one of Ed’s concerts in Wembley.
Opening up about Cherry’s terrifying ordeal, Ed told the publication: ‘There’s nothing you can do about it. You feel so powerless.’
Ed has spent the past couple of months living in Australia with his family while he performs on tour.
‘It’s so nice and wholesome having family on tour,’ he said. ‘On the last tour, I’d party till 7am, sleep till 4pm, get up and do the gig. But I was like, 26. It’s very different.’
Ed is back in the UK and preparing to launch his new tour to support the album Subtract, kicking off in Manchester on March 23. He’ll also release a four-part docu-series to Disney Plus that same month.
Ed Sheeran’s new album ‘-’ (Subtract) is set for release on May 5.
