Common has released the music video for his funk-tinged track “When We Move” featuring Black Thought and Seun Kuti, off of his new album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2.

Filled with horns, drums and an uptempo beat, the song is a chant of hope and celebration of Black history. As the music video depicts a celebratory gathering with dancing from people of all ages, it champions the heart and soul of triumph through perseverance.

“When we move, the whole world follows in our path,” says the song. As this line is spoken throughout the song, the music video alternates between the party and clips of important figures and moments in Black history. Specifically, the video showcases Muhammad Ali, Nelson Mandela, the Black Panther Party, Fela Kuti (Nigerian musician, activist and father of Seun Kuti) and more.

“I thought about what being still in these times had brought me and that was peace beyond understanding, a greater love for self, a closer connection with God, and more appreciation for my family, friends and the simple things in life,” said Common. “I wanted to write about that and create music that embodies that.”
