Race gone wrong

Kevin Hart is in a wheelchair for the next four to six weeks after a 40-yard race against his pal — a former running back for the New England Patriots — went awry. “44 and sitting my a** down!!!!! I got to be the dumbest man alive!!!!!” the actor and comic captioned a clip on Instagram on Aug. 23, explaining what happened. It seems Kevin, 44, decided he could beat Stevan Ridley, 34, in a foot race. “I’m in a wheelchair. Why? Well, because I tried to jump out there and do some young stuff” after a debate about his and Stevan’s respective running speeds, he explained.

“Stevan said, ‘Kevin, ain’t no way you’re gonna beat me,'” Kevin continued, adding that Stevan is an “ex-NFL” player and a “very good guy.” He’s a very fast guy, too, which Kevin learned the hard way when he tore his lower abdomen and hip abductors during the race.

“To all my men and women out there that are 40 years old and above: It’s not a game, respect that age. Respect that age, or that age will make you respect it,” he quipped. “I was just forced to respect it. This is just a public service announcement because I know people may see me out. And I don’t want you to be alarmed, but I’m in a wheelchair.” Looking straight at the camera as if disciplining himself, Kevin asked, “What am I doing? Why did I even race? Stupidest s*** ever, now I can’t walk.” Responding to his buddy on Instagram Stories, Stevan later joked: “I SAW @TOMBRADY DO IT AT YOUR AGE SO I FIGURED YOU HAD THE JOICE TOO BIG BRO!”

‘Insulting’ Photoshop job

The editor behind Jessica Simpson’s widely criticized 2010 Lucky magazine cover calling herself out for running a digitally slimmed-down image of the star on a story about Jessica’s path to “finally loving her own body.” “Here’s a story I’m not especially proud of,” writes Kim France in a blog post about Vogue’s seemingly retouched September 2023 cover. She goes on to write that Jess “was about a size 14” at the time of the shoot, noting that a 14 is “normal by many rational standards, but not by glossy magazine standards,” especially in 2010. “I’d like to be able to tell you that I fearlessly insisted we put her on the cover anyway, looking the way she actually looked. I did not. We made her skinnier — much skinnier than she actually was,” Kim continues, adding that she still has no explanation for why she included the “stupid” headline about Jessica embracing her curves.

“Once we had shot a size-14 woman for the cover, that cover wouldn’t have made it out the door and past the bosses unless she was slimmed down,” Kim reasoned. “And so I did that, to an insulting degree. Jessica Simpson herself was said to have hated the cover, and who could possibly have blamed her?”

Jessica, for her part, has spoken and written publicly about how her weight was impacted by two difficult pregnancies and her past battle with substance abuse.

Last moments together

Priscilla Presley says her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, complained of stomach pain in the days before she died suddenly on Jan. 10 at age 54. “I did know there was something not right,” Priscilla told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Aug. 23. Priscilla and Lisa Marie had been celebrating Austin Butler’s best actor win for “Elvis” at the Chateau Marmont after the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Priscilla recalled, when Lisa Marie said she didn’t feel well. “We had just gotten there, you go down all these stairs. I tripped a little bit because I had these high heels on, and she started laughing so hard. I started laughing. We hadn’t even had a drink yet. She goes, ‘Oh my God, Mom, you can’t even have a drink.’ … It was fun, a fun memory,” Priscilla shared.

“Then we sat down and ordered drinks, and she says, ‘Mom, my stomach hurts really bad.’ We immediately got up and left.” Priscilla said her daughter’s ex, Danny Keough, called two days later to let her know Lisa Marie had been hospitalized. “I got right in the car, but she was already gone,” she said.
“I still can’t believe it. I don’t wish this on any mother.”

Priscilla’s marriage to Lisa Marie’s father, Elvis Presley, is the subject of Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biopic “Priscilla,” in theaters Oct. 27.

Economy flight

Introducing Billie Eilish, the people’s pop star. A video of the seven-time Grammy winner sitting in the economy section of a recent flight went viral on TikTok this week as fans praised the singer for sitting beside regular folks rather than choosing a private jet or first class accommodations for the trip. “POV: You’re on a plane with Billie (still can’t believe wtf just happened),” the TikTok user captioned the short clip, which showed Billie clad in a star-patterned hoodie. “Omg she’s so humble being in economy,” one person wrote in the comments. Another noted the singer and her brother and music partner Finneas have said they’d “never get a private jet,” while a third said they were “glad she’s in a public plane instead of polluting the air like other celebrities” who fly private. At 21, Billie boasts an estimated net worth of about $30 million, according to CelebrityNetWorth.com.

Prison problems

Former “Chrisley Knows Best” star Chase Chrisley says his parents are battling “awful conditions” at the prisons where they’re serving sentences for bank fraud and tax evasion. Chase, who’s slated to appear in a new reality show about his now infamous family, detailed the alleged dangers at FPC Pensacola and Kentucky’s Federal Medical Center in an interview with “Extra” this week. “It’s a terrible situation,” he claimed. “The conditions are awful and if you read all these headlines they say the polar opposite, but it is not the truth and we’re going to be spreading a lot of awareness to that as well.” Chase’s dad, Todd Chrisley, is serving 12 years in Pensacola, Florida, at a federal prison camp Forbes once reported was among the nation’s “cushiest.” Chase claims that couldn’t be further from the truth. “Everyone has this perception that my parents are in this country club prison and that’s just not the case at all. My mom’s sitting up there with no air, and my dad’s facility has no air,” he alleged. “They both have black mold, lead-based paint, the roof is falling in on both facilities. So it’s just, it’s just a lie.”

Fans may soon be able to see for themselves whether the Chrisleys are being subjected to dangerous living conditions. In the Chrisleys’ next as-yet-untitled reality show, “There definitely will be times we’ll be on phone calls and going to visit and stuff like that,” Chase said.

Alleged stalker arrested

A man who rushed the stage while yelling at Drew Barrymore as she hosted an event in New York City on Aug. 21 has reportedly been arrested. The man, who screamed he was “Chad Michael Busto” and demanded to “see” Drew during her time in the Big Apple, is now the subject of an “ongoing investigation” after he resurfaced outside Drew’s home in the Hamptons, the New York Post reported. TMZ also confirmed the arrest. Drew’s scary run-in with the man came as she was interviewing singer and actress Renee Rapp onstage at the 92nd Street Y earlier this week. When he aggressively approached the stage, Renee put an arm around Drew and escorted her away from view before they continued with the event. Per the Post’s report, the man had been going “house-to-house” trying to find Drew’s home before he was intercepted by police.
