For those hunting for a one-of-a-kind gift this holiday season, or who are simply in search of an impressive grail, auction house Christie’s is offering luxury handbags, sneakers and other accessories in its latest event. Titled Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix, the auction reflects the shifting definition of luxury, as savvy collectors begin to follow releases from streetwear brands and heritage fashion houses alike. Opening on November 24, Christie’s will open its online-only auction with some of the most collectible sneakers on the market.
While the sale includes highly-coveted Supreme pieces, like artist collaboration skateboards, the Pinball Machine and the Fender Guitar and Pearl Drum Set, the auction’s most unique offerings are in its sneakers. Christie’s is presenting a pair of game-worn and dual signed Air Jordan 13s from Michael Jordan‘s last regular-season game of the Chicago Bull’s Championship season. Featured in The Last Dance docuseries, these sneakers are from his 1997-98 NBA season and are an emblem of important basketball history. These “He’s Got Game” sneakers have a holographic jewel at the heel, which is a reference to Jordan’s “Black Cat” nickname.
Other footwear offerings in the Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix auction include comprehensive sets of buzz-making sneakers from recent years. Sneakerheads can look forward to a complete set of Kanye West’s adidas Yeezy 350s, which were released from 2015 to 2020, and a complete set of shoes from the Virgil Abloh-designed Nike and Off-White™ collaboration, which span from 2017 to 2020. The auction will also offer more traditional luxury pieces from Hermès, like a Himalaya Birkin 35 and other limited-edition bags.
Beginning on November 24, interested collectors can start putting in their bids for the Handbags x HYPE: The Luxury Remix through December 9. To learn more about the online-only auction, head to Christie’s website.
