Independent watch brand AVI-8 is teaming up with Capcom for their first-ever watch collaboration starring a retro-inspired timepiece: the AV-4104 Flyboy Capcom 1942™ Automatic Limited Edition.
Drawing inspiration from 1942, Capcom’s iconic ‘80s vertically scrolling shooter, the video game’s retro aesthetics are translated onto the watch face. Arriving in a 41mm stainless steel case, the timepiece houses a textured, multi-layered, and matte-finished dial that’s embedded with 8-bit aircraft motifs. The date window also features a pixelated typeface reminiscent of the number displays as seen on the screen of the game. Another feature serving as a faithful tribute to the original arcade game is the seconds hand — it takes on the form of the “Super Ace” aircraft that the player pilots, while the pointed end is doused in a rainbow gradient to emulate the bullets. All aforementioned elements are luminously coated to evoke a vibrant and nostalgic scene in the dark.
Running on a Japanese Seiko TMI NH35 Automatic movement, the collaborative reference is also capable of withstanding up to 5 ATM underwater. Available in two colorways, each watch is uniquely numbered, accompanied by authenticity certification alongside a set of custom prints featuring vintage comic-style illustrations by Nache Ramos. In Addition to the steel metal bracelet, an additional two-tone nylon strap is also offered.
The Flyboy Capcom 1942 Automatic timepiece will only be available in a limited run of 300 units starting July 28 via AVI-8’s webstore.
