Sam Smith, Lady Gaga and Halsey are among the singers who have earned nominations for the 32nd annual GLAAD Media Awards.
The list released by actress Josie Totah, drag star Shangela and actor Jonathan Bennett on TikTok on Thursday (January 28) also includes Adam Lambert, Ricky Martin and Kehlani among others. Overall, the list contains 198 nominees across 28 categories.
The GLADD Media awards honor artists who come up with presentations that are “fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues.” The projects are also judged on “boldness and originality,” “impact” and overall quality.
Gaga and Sam are nominated in the category of Outstanding Music Artist for their albums Chromatica and Love Goes, respectively. Halsey has earned a nomination for Manic (Capitol)
This year, GLADD has introduced a brand new music category – the outstanding breakthrough artist category – to recognize LGBTQ artists who broke through into mainstream success in 2020, and “whose songs, music videos, or live performances have made a significant impact on LGBTQ visibility and acceptance,” according to a press release.
The winners will be announced during a virtual ceremony that will take place in April.
