Rod Stewart talks about taking a break and ‘retiring’
Rod Stewart shared some clarification with concerned fans after doing a string of interviews that seemingly hinted at his retirement over the past few weeks.
On Instagram today, the 78-year-old assured fans: “I shall never retire!
“I’d like to clear up any confusion that I may have caused with my dear fans and the media.
“I was put on this earth to be a singer and will keep doing so for as long as the good Lord lets me.”
In his heartfelt note, the rockstar added that all of his tour dates, heading into 2024, will still be going ahead as planned and he will be “playing the hits as advertised”.
However, the father-of-seven explained that in the recent interviews he was actually trying to explain that he will be transitioning from rock to “big band/swing music” as it’s his “newest passion” adding that he’s “very eager to share” it once his tour ends.
He comforted fans, noting that even after he makes this highly anticipated transition, his greatest hits will not be forgotten: “I could never turn my back on the songs that I’ve written and sung over the last six decades.
“They are like my children. I created them and I love them. I’ll always come back to them.”
The Maggie May singer signed off: “I look forward to seeing you on the road with all the hits, and I can’t wait to introduce you to my new swing album next year.”
Earlier this month, the 78-year-old stunned fans during his appearance on BBC Breakfast alongside fellow music icon Boy George.
As the host Charlie Stayt spoke in awe about “rockstars performing into incredible ages”, Sir Rod declared: “I’m actually stopping. I’m not retiring but I want to move on.
“I’ve just done a swing album with Jools Holland, which is going to come out next year, so I want to go in that direction.
“I just want to leave all the rock ‘n’ roll stuff behind, for a while, maybe.”
The rockstar made similar comments in a chat on Virgin Radio with Chris Evans, insinuating that his current run of shows would be his “last tour” before clarifying that he intends for it to be his last rock tour.
