Nick Cave and Blondie‘s Debbie Harry have teamed for a cover of “On the Other Side,” the first single from the new collection The Task Has Overwhelmed Us.
It was made with contributions from Cypress Grove, Warren Ellis, and Guido Benigni.
The collection is the fourth volume in the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Project series, which is made up of new interpretations of songs by The Gun Club‘s late singer-songwriter Jeffrey Lee Pierce.
The Task Has Overwhelmed Us arrives on September 29.
It’s the fourth duet from Cave and Harry for this series following “Free to Walk” on 2009’s We Are Only Riders, “The Breaking Hands” from 2012’s The Journey Is Long, and “Into the Fire” from 2014’s Axels and Sockets.
“He genuinely cared about other people,” Cave said of Pierce in an interview with Gene Temesy. “He was very genuine. A nd you know, I loved him very much. And I think he was a great songwriter.”
Harry added, “He had a good heart… and, you know, it’s surprising how great his lyrics were, how original they were.”
