Today in celebrity feuds no one was prepared for, Mayim Bialik just showed up on The Late Late Show with James Cordon and randomly revealed that Neil Patrick Harris stopped speaking to her for literal years. Why, you ask? Because she refused to give him a standing ovation at Rent.
“People expect that because I worked with Bette Midler and because I’m me, I’m supposed to love musicals,” she said before getting into the details. “It’s not my thing.”
Mayim went on to discuss her Neil drama, saying “This is a terrible story. I went to see Rent. I mean, this is a long time ago. I was a teenager. It wasn’t my thing. But when your friend is in the play. And then everyone is clapping at the end. And you say to your boyfriend next to you, ‘I don’t want to stand for this,’ and then you look up and Neil Patrick Harris is looking right at you… it’s a bad day.”
Apparently Neil was quite literally READING HER LIPS and asked about her comment post-show.
“When I went back stage to say hi to him, we were friends at the time—at the time—he said, I kid you not, ‘why did you say you weren’t going to stand up?'” she said. “He read my lips. It was terrible. It was bad. It was many years ago. We didn’t speak for a long time. He says that he forgave me and he sent me flowers when he heard I was still carrying this terrible guilt.”
