Love Island host Maya Jama has brilliantly shut down a troll who accused her of having "no apparent talent".
The presenter, 28, is currently dividing her time between Majorca and London for the main ITV2 show and recap discussion show Aftersun. taking over from previous host Laura Whitmore after she quit the show last year, and has been an instant success thanks to her witty banter and scene-stealing villa wardrobe.
However, despite the overwhelming amount of support Maya receives from fans and viewers, the star is not immune to the odd negative comment. The former Radio 1 host recently turned heads as a lady in red at the National Gallery's Summer Party, to which she wore an elegant Dolce & Gabanna ensemble.
Whilst Maya's supporters gushed over the look, in a now-deleted comment, one account wrote: "Such a weird culture we live in when such people are given such privilege despite having no apparent talent of any kind. It used to matter what a person said or did in order to become well-known."
"Now all we do is elevate and celebrate people that merely look 'good'," they added, with an "eye roll" emoji.
Maya decided to educate the commenter on her impressive career, snapping back: "I actually moved from home at 16 and started on YouTube and then hosted a shown on Rinsefm for a few years before hosting on MTV and then 4music,
"Had a show on BBC radio 1 for a couple years and hosted about 100 tv shows & currently hosting 1 of the biggest shows in the UK but yeah Google will tell you anything else you need to know. Defo no hard graft though purely just my face x."
Maya recently revealed that of all the jobs she’s had, her stint working in retail was her least favourite position. It may have been the worst job she’s ever had, but Maya did say that working in the clothing store helped keep her presenting dream alive. Speaking to A List in 2018, Maya said: “It was super social and everyone in there had a dream. It was like, ‘We’ll go to work and do this but we’ve all got this dream,’ and you’d share it in the changing room.
“I used to constantly talk about it, pretty much everything I’m doing now, I’m super-grateful and blessed and I have to pinch myself now and again.”
In her interview with The Guardian, Maya also revealed that one of the worst things anyone ever said to her was that she wouldn’t be successful. Hitting back, she said: ”Joke’s on them, I guess.”
The presenter was also asked what her biggest disappointment in life so far had been, with Maya replying: “Probably missing out on roles I really, really wanted, but I’m a big believer that if it’s for you, you’ll have it. So those clearly weren’t for me.”
