Kanye West, 43, won his 22nd Grammy Award at the 2021 ceremony on Sunday, but the reaction from fans wasn’t wholly welcoming. The artist was announced as the winner of the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for his Jesus Is King LP, so it didn’t look like the Recording Academy were bothered by his past misdemeanours surrounding placing the prestigious music award down the toilet nad urinating on it.

Remember what he did??? And he still got a Grammy???

Twitter user

After a series of scathing tweets last year hitting out at Universal over the rights of musician’s owning their own work, Kanye then posted a video of himself peeing on one of his 21 gongs.

“Trust me… I WON’T STOP,” he penned alongside the eye-raising video.

He’d added: “90% of the record contracts on the planet are still on a royalty A standard record deal is a trap to NEVER have you recoup, and there’s all these hidden costs like the ‘distribution fees’ many labels put in their contracts to make even more money off our work without even trying.”

With the win, Kanye passes rapper Jay-Z for the most Grammy Award won by a hip-hop artist, but it didn’t sit right with some fans following his actions last year.

Taking to Twitter, viewers shared their opinions and it was a very mixed reaction to say the least.

One cheered in support of the artist: “Kanye won a Grammy after peeing on a Grammy. Goat [greatest of all time] level 1000.”

Another agreed: “Kanye won a Grammy for his least popular album in terms of critical reception after filming a vid of him p***ing on a Grammy & uploading it to Twitter & dissing them incessantly for about a year and some of you still deny he’s the Greatest Of All Time.”

“Congratulations Kanye, he has had so many struggles in his life recently it’s nice to see him win one,” a third pointed out.

A fourth noted: “Never thought I’d say this but man Kanye West was onto something when he peed in his Grammy.”

Others had a different point of view, with one saying: “Embarrassing didn’t deserve.”

“He peed on a Grammy Award but they gave him anyway…” another pondered the decision by the Recording Academy.

Someone else posted: “Congrats I guess.”

“Remember what he did??? And he still got a Grammy???” a third retorted.

A fourth agreed: “Kanye West literally put a Grammy in the toilet and urinated on it and they gave him a new one to reward him but The Weeknd wanted to perform at the Super Bowl and they stripped him of any nomination lmao, very interesting policy.”(sic)

It comes after The Weeknd, among other artists, was left out of this year’s nominations and announced he was boycotting future ceremonies.
