A Place in the Sun star Jonnie Irwin has shared photos of what he called the "best Father's Day ever", despite his terminal cancer diagnosis.

The TV presenter, 49, has three young sons and shared photos of how they spoiled him for Father's Day with his fans on Instagram.

Jonnie posted photos from his day with his children, including homemade cards, a delicious-looking chocolate Guinness cake, and a visit to his brother-in-law for a ride on his motorbike.

He told his followers how much he had loved his Sunday with family, writing: "Had The best Father’s Day ever. Breakfast of Chocolate Guinness cake baked expertly my brilliant wife then cards from the boys and visit from my brother in law for a brief pillion ride back in time to enjoy some of the highs and lows of the Ashes ending in more cake with more family washed down by a drop of champers."

The star's followers offered their support as one person commented: "It’s all about family, stay strong Jonnie xxxx"

Someone else wrote: "Thank you for sharing the moments of your special Fathers day with your family Jonnie. If I could have one miracle right now I’d give it to you."

Another person wrote: "Think of you every day Jonnie. You are giving your boys memories of a wonderful, brave daddy."

Someone else added: "Lucky boys having you as their Dad."

Jonnie was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer in 2020 and although he was told he probably had six months left, he has outlived doctors' expectations.

He recently told how he had not shared his diagnosis with his young children yet because he didn't want to confuse them.

Explaining his decision to Hello!, he said: "I keep being asked, 'Are you going to tell them?' but tell them what?

"It would be horrible news that they'd have to get their heads around. And it would confuse the hell out of Rex – he's got a shocking enough day coming. Let's bury our heads in the sand for as long as possible."

Jonnie has also told Hello! that he will often "remove himself" from his family home to stay at a hospice as he wants to shield his children from the worst of his illness.

He said: "I remove myself on a number of occasions because I'm not good to be around when I'm in pain. I'm like a bear with a sore head and I don't want them to be around that."
