The film was the first significant deal announced at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, with Bleecker Street picking up US rights for the movie.
According to Deadline, the upcoming project is said to poke fun at period dramas like Downton Abbey, and is “in the tradition of classic joke-a-minute spoof comedies like The Naked Gun series and Airplane!” and is a UK-based Equity production, so SAG-AFTRA members who work on the movie are not bound to the terms of the current strike.
Hero is set to portray a “new porter who embarks on an unlikely relationship with the youngest daughter (McKenzie) of a prominent UK family. At the same time, rivalries are spilling over in the Davenport family, led by Lord and Lady Davenport (Waterston) as they also weather the epic failure of the wedding of their eldest daughter (Laird) to her caddish cousin.”
Jim O’Hanlon is attached to direct with additional casting currently taking place. Filming is set to begin in the UK in early 2024.
“The British Film Industry does two things very well. Period drama and comedy. Now we didn’t have time to write two movies, so we’ve had to mash the genres together… I’m just slightly worried that if you say Fackham Hall in a posh English accent it might be misconstrued, hopefully that won’t be a problem,” screenwriter Jimmy Carr said in a statement.
Hero‘s upcoming movie franchise After is set to come to an end with After Everything, in theaters NEXT Thursday, September 13th.
The actor is also set to star in a WWII film with Henry Cavill and more.
