Halestorm‘s Lzzy Hale opened up about experiencing anxiety and impostor syndrome during Sound Mind‘s latest episode of “Unmasked.”
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and the new episode deals with musicians fighting mental health issues.
“Even though we’ve come a long way in the past few generations to break the stigma that has long shadowed mental health, there are still so many of us having a hard time finding a safe space,” said the lead singer and co-founder of Halestorm. “Personally, I have suffered from depression — feeling like I’m trapped at the bottom of a well watching the world above go by without me — as well as paralyzing anxiety and impostor syndrome.”
“These are battles I still fight daily, and by being honest and vulnerable about my own struggles, I want to give others hope. You are not alone,” she added.
“Raise Your Horns,” a song from the rock band’s latest album Back From The Dead, was inspired by Hale’s mental health journey and turned into a fan favorite at concerts.
“I wanted to write a song about my mental health journey that you can work through things that you thought were impossible, to raise your horns,” she said.
