Chelsea Handler has nothing but admiration for the way Chris Rock handled himself after being slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars.

The former Chelsea Lately host attended the Grammy Awards 2022 in Las Vegas on Sunday, accompanied by her boyfriend Jo Koy, and weighed in on the controversial moment that happened at the Academy Awards a week ago.

Smith marched up on stage to confront Rock and ended up striking him across the face after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Addressing the scandal on the Grammys red carpet, Chelsea told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I just think Chris Rock handled himself with such aplomb and is such a pro and that, you know, he could not have reacted in a better way.

‘He just handled it like a professional and it was a good example to all performers and all comedians how to keep your cool and not be reactive and to actually keep the show moving along.’

Her partner Jo revealed he also has high respect for Rock, and added: ‘He is just my king. So, seeing him stand the way that he did and hold his composure – man, I love him so much.’

Chelsea also said that comedians shouldn’t be concerned about being attacked over their jokes going forward, stating: ‘You can’t worry about the people who don’t like you.

‘It’s more important to focus on the people that do like you and serve them and serve them up with laughter.’

It was earlier reported that Grammys organisers have ramped up security at the awards to avoid a similar incident like the Oscars.

A source told The Sun: ‘There have been frantic meetings all week to ensure that the show goes smoothly and there are no controversial scenes.

‘Organisers have had enough trouble getting the show off the ground with the pandemic to contend with, so adding this into the mix has been a huge pressure.

‘Everyone attending knows there is a strict code of conduct and if they don’t abide to it, they’ll be kicked out.’

This year’s Grammys will be hosted by comedian Trevor Noah and will feature performances from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Lil Nas X and Silk Sonic, as well as a special tribute to Foo Fighters star Taylor Hawkins following his sudden death last month.
