Glossier is getting a huge makeover.

Emily Weiss, who founded the Millennial-beloved beauty brand, is stepping down from her role as CEO after eight years, she told Bloomberg News. Weiss, who is preparing to go on maternity leave, will remain on the Glossier board as executive chairwoman, and “plans to remain involved in decision-making on product, marketing and retail upon her return,” according to Bloomberg.

Weiss also shared the news on Instagram, posting a photo of herself with new CEO Kyle Leahy along with a lengthy caption.

“Today I am celebrating my friend and colleague Kyle Leahy, who I’ve decided to make Glossier’s next CEO,” Weiss writes, adding, “To be clear, I’m not going anywhere! Just able to focus more of my time as Founder (and now, Executive Chairwoman) on the areas that I love: product, creative, brand… anything that makes yours and my heart beat just a little bit faster. After I settle in to life welcoming this new little heart into existence, soon.”

She adds, “Over the years, Glossier has championed people: I believe in the power of the individual, and deeply believe that everyone has unique gifts to offer the world in community with others. This belief is what’s made our team so special over the years, and it’s the recipe for continuing to change how the world sees beauty for decades to come. I am thrilled to partner with Kyle, who is exactly the kind of empathetic leader that all companies would do well to have in such a dynamic world, right now.”

Weiss also sends followers to a blog post that outlines more about the transition—as well as more scoop, including that the NYC store is getting a redesign (“yes, we’re coming back to SoHo in early 2023!” Weiss writes).

But perhaps the most exciting news for Glossier fans? Leahy plans to utilize wholesale partners—think: Ulta and Sephora—to grow the business going forward. Up until this point, Glossier has relied on its few brick-and-mortar stores and direct-to-consumer business model to reach customers, and it seems that, finally, the products may be more accessible.

The news of Weiss’s departure comes after months of ups and downs at the brand. In January, Glossier laid off 80 employees, with Weiss admitting she “made some mistakes” in a note to staff. Then, in April, they announced Olivia Rodrigo as their first-ever celebrity face. Choosing Rodrigo, a Gen Z phenomenon with an Instagram following of 25 million and counting, was seen as an opportunity for the brand—known for fans of Millennial-pink and beauty minimalism—to break into a younger demographic.

With the combination of Rodrigo, Leahy at the helm, and a larger in-store presence, perhaps the brand’s next iteration will look dewier than ever.
