Gemma Atkinson has opened up her son Thiago's birth earlier this month, telling fans she had a C-section.

The presenter, 38, welcomed her second child earlier this month with Strictly star fiancé Gorka Marquez, 32, and shortly after announced their son’s name.

Taking to her Instagram on Wednesday, 26 July, Gemma shared a pic of herself in hospital, telling fans she had "an elected C section" as "I didn't get my vaginal birth."

Joking that she was helped through the process by Wimbledon, she continued: "My waters broke and I went into labour and stayed at home for as long as possible (it helped that the Wimbledon men's final was on!)

"My contractions got down to every 6 mins or so and then slowly just stopped. We headed into the hospital 24hrs after my waters broke as they had changed colour a little. Thiago had opened his bowels. Thanks son! Already s******g on me."

Gemma then added: "I was given the choice of the artificial hormone to induce labour again or a section. Weeks ago we said if it came down to that we would 100% go with the section."

She said that the hormone injection she'd had for her first child, Mia, was "awful" and that it ended up in an emergency C-section anyway.

Gemma explained that her mum, Sandra, has moved in with her while Gorka is away, presumably rehearsing for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, where he is a professional dancer.

Late last month, it was revealed that the couple would be launching a new reality TV series where they will show an unfiltered side to her pregnancy that opens up on piles and sweating. The fly-on-the-wall series will be on W and UKTVPlay.

Gemma said: "For the last few months we’ve had the most wonderful crew document our 2nd pregnancy showing not only the absolute utter chaos of our day to day lives at home juggling work, dogs, toddlers and hormones but also in the hope to raise some awareness of the not so glamorous stuff in pregnancy no one really tells you about!

"Fellow mums to be also dealing with piles and sweating profusely and fellow dads to be confused about perineal massage we’re looking at you!"

She continued: "There’s no glam squad, no script and no filters. We agreed the only way to do this, was to keep it real, keep it relatable and just hope for the best.

Former Hollyoaks star Gemma met Gorka when she was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing and fans of the show who have loved following their romance will be keen to see new series Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens.
