Glastonbury man who proposed to girlfriend during Elton John’s festival set was actually supposed to pop the question at a very different time
The man who proposed to his girlfriend during Elton John’s gig at Glastonbury Festival on Sunday was meant to do it at a very different time.
As music man Elton, 76, rocked out on stage, the BBC One cameras cut to Stanley as he got down on one knee and popped the question to his girlfriend Leva, with 7.7million people catching the moment live.
However, the heartwarming moment was actually supposed to happen a day other but Stanley’s mother sternly recommended he didn’t.
Appearing on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden on Tuesday, Stanley explained how he had planned to propose during singer Lizzo’s set on Saturday.
And he insists if his mother had not told him Lizzo’s song Juice may not have been the moment to get down on one knee because ‘it wasn’t the most appropriate song to propose to’, their moment would not have gone down in history.

Jamie told listeners: ‘Now, whilst Elton John’s show at Glastonbury on Sunday will go down in history as one of the best headline acts ever. For one couple it’s a gig they will never forget.
‘Stanley and Leva, were the couple that proposed during Elton’s show.’
Amanda asked: ‘How are you feeling?’
Stanley said: ‘We’re feeling amazing – chuffed to bits,’ before adding of Leva: ‘So she said yes, obviously?’
Amanda asked: ‘Was that always your plan? Were you carrying a ring round with you for like, the whole weekend?’
As Elton brought out The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers to duet on his 1971 hit Tiny Dancer, one couple in the crowd only had eyes for each other as they got engaged.
‘I was going go for Juice by Lizzo. But then I changed my mind. Because, you know, my mum told me it’s probably not the most appropriate song to propose to!’, responded Stanley.
Amanda said: ‘Oh, my gosh, It must be quite nerve wracking having a ring in your pocket?’

To which Jamie joked: ‘They say don’t take anything valuable!’
Stanley explained: ‘I also had a couple of like pieces of paper with my details on it for people around me. So I handed it out when Leva wasn’t paying attention, like handing out sweets or something. It just had my name, my contact details.
‘So the people around me could record it, and send it over to us. Then the massive camera came, picked us out. So they obviously caught on to what was going on.’
