Former James Bond actor Daniel Craig, 53, ended 2021 on high note after he was made a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George. And it seems very, very fitting as it’s the same honour given to his alter-ego, 007.
The award comes as a nod to his services to film and theatre, after he packed in the towel as the MI6 agent when his fifth film was released earlier this year.
No Time To Die achieved blistering success at the box office, a nice send-off for the longest running Bond to ever grace our screens.
The actor made his explosive debut in 2006’s Casino Royale after taking over from Pierce Brosnan.
A CMG is an honour that is often given to diplomats, and the fictional spy is described as holding it in both the films and the books by Ian Fleming.
It’s not the only big award Craig has received his year.
For his service to the character, he was the 2,704th celebrity to be honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame in California, following the launch.
His plaque was unveiled in a night time ceremony, which was streamed live on YouTube, outside 7007 Hollywood Boulevard; a touching tribute to the character’s infamous code number.
It was placed in a fitting spot too, just yards away from his Bond predecessor, Sir Roger Moore.
Craig said it was an “absolute honour to be walked all over in Hollywood”.
The 53-year-old was introduced by Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, along with his co-star in the latest film, Rami Malek.
Craig donned a suave James Bond esque light grey suit with a black tie and shiny black dress shoes.
Wilson spoke of how charitable the actor is, adding he is “more than qualified” for the esteemed accolade.

He added: “This star on Hollywood Boulevard is a fitting cap to your amazing run as Bond.”
Before his star was unveiled, Craig gave his thanks to his colleagues: “To Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, I thank you from the depth of my heart, without you I would not be here today – thank you for those lovely words.
“Thank you to Rami for those beautiful, beautiful words,” he said, referring to his co-star’s speech in the moments before.
“I never thought I would hear myself say this, but it’s an absolute honour to be walked all over in Hollywood.”
Other figures from the world of entertainment recognised on this year’s New Years Honours List included Coronation Street actor William Roache, 89, who has been made an OBE.
Joanna Lumley also said she is “astonished, thrilled and touched beyond words” at being made a dame.
The 75-year-old actress has been honoured for services to drama, entertainment and charitable causes.
Of the award, she said: “I am astonished and thrilled and touched beyond words to receive this colossal honour. It comes as a complete and unexpected surprise, and is the kindest and most beautiful present imaginable.”
