Cruel Summer season two is heating up!
The hit anthology series from Freeform is in the middle of it’s second season and it’s holding up against the massive hit of a first season.
Following the show’s midseason finale last week, the showrunner opened up about taking on the series and teased what’s to come in the second half.

While talking about the twists and turns of the season, THR asked if there was a particular episode that showrunner Elle Triedman feels changes everything for the characters.
“Episode eight is interesting, because it’s the end of summer ‘99. It starts on New Year’s Eve, the last day of 99, so that’s sort of interesting. But I don’t know that there’s any one episode that kind of spins everything. Because once you get to the end, when you look back, there are things that were in place early, and [if you] blink, you’ll miss it,” she says.
“Certainly episode five. It’s halfway through the season. It’s a huge bomb that’s dropped, and it just makes the characters — and I hope the audience — reexamine everything they thought they knew,” Elle continued. “And rightly or wrongly, it also makes you look back at the truths that were told and the lies that were told or the information that was left out, and it sort of shakes all of that up.”
The next episode of Cruel Summer airs TONIGHT (July 3), and is titled “The Plunge.”
Here’s a synopsis: In summer 1999, sparks fly at Luke’s birthday party. In winter 1999, relationships are tested as Megan becomes more distant from Luke. In summer 2000, Megan obsesses over an interesting letter she received.
