Anne-Marie has opened up about her new collaboration with Little Mix, saying the song is about "walking away from someone toxic".
The 30-year-old singer has teamed up with the girl group for their new single Kiss My (Uh Oh) amid their falling out with ex-band member Jesy Nelson.
Taking to Instagram yesterday evening, she explained the meaning behind the song, saying that is is about walking away from someone who treated you badly.
The singer said: "This song is a girl power anthem. It’s all about walking away from someone who weren’t treating you well, not giving you what you deserve, not giving you the time and just treating you as a booty call…
"Which sometimes can be fun but if you want more and they are not moving to the next stage for you, you got to walk away. Goodbye."
Anne-Marie explained that the collaboration between her and Little Mix had been a long time in the making, with the singer working with the band virtually during lockdown so they could add their vocals to the song.
It comes after former member Jesy Nelson’s ‘blackfishing’ accusations have seen numerous celebs unfollow the star on social media.
Blackfishing means to accuse someone of pretending to be of black or mixed race heritage.
As well as Ann-Marie, other celebrities including the Little Mix stars, MNEK and Paloma Faith appear to have dropped Jesy from their feeds after the release of her debut solo single, Boyz, on which she collaborates with Nicki Minaj.
Fans are questioning the relationship between Jesy and Leigh-Anne after a recent Instagram Live with saw Nicki call Leigh-Anne “jealous” and a “clown”, with Jesy not stepping in to defend her former bandmate.
Soon after the release of Jesy’s track, TikToker NoHun shared a message allegedly from Leigh-Anne’s Instagram account where she appeared to also accuse the 30 year of blackfishing.
Following the accusations, Little Mix fans have been hunting for evidence to back the idea that Jesy and Leigh-Anne never really liked one another, despite having been in the band together for over a decade.
Adding fuel to the fire, one eagle-eyed individual found a clip from The Search — a show where members of Little Mix become mentors as they put together a boyband — where Jesy and Leigh-Anne were filmed disagreeing with each other over a band’s audition.
Leigh-Anne says to her then-bandmate who criticised the group: “Jesy, I don’t know what you were listening to.”
Jesy then talks over Leigh-Anne while trying to defend her comments to the group of hopefuls.
“No listen, I said you can’t fault it,” Jesy says. “But I did say something was missing for me. I didn’t say anything was bad, but there was something missing.”
