Even in the 21st century, a lot of pressure is put on women to look youthful. This is particularly true in Hollywood where ageism is rampant (via Forbes). While people make the choice to undergo cosmetic procedures for a variety of reasons, Drew Barrymore is determined to avoid their allure.
There’s more than one reason for this. The first, as she recently explained on her talk show The Drew Barrymore Show is that she’s “a highly addictive person” and is worried that if she does “one injection” she will get carried away with it.
While Barrymore might undergo a procedure some day and will “never say never,” she’s also not afraid of aging and views it as the natural process that it is. “I would love if there was some way that we could let go and give in to the ride of life a little bit more,” she explained.
Drew Barrymore is opposed to 'chasing some unnatural beauty'
She continued, “We’re gonna age, things are gonna go south and it’s ok and it’s a part of life and I feel more human and more vulnerable every year of my life, but I also know how to appreciate every year more and more, too.”
This isn’t the first time that Barrymore has talked about her views on plastic surgery and aging. In a 2019 interview with Glamour, she similarly talked about her “extremely addictive personality.” While Barrymore has experimented with drugs in the past, she said, “I’ve never done heroin and I don’t want to get plastic surgery because I feel like they’re both very slippery slopes. I feel if I try either, I’m going to be dead really soon.”
Barrymore has embraced aging instead of “chasing some unnatural beauty.” She will experiment with makeup, though. “I have dark circles under my eyes,” she revealed. “I was at my dermatologist’s recently who said to me, ‘Can I shoot some Juvederm up there? It will raise the skin and it won’t be so sunken, which is causing the darkness to look worse, because it’s lower than the natural light that is hitting it.’ And I went: ‘No, but I’m gonna go home and start highlighting under my eyes, so thank you for the tip!”
