Meg Ryan has shared her kids’ reaction to her famous orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally.

The 1989 rom-com is often named one of the best ever made, and follows two friends, Harry (Billy Crystal) and Sally (Ryan), over the years as they navigate their adult lives and debate the age-old question of if men and women can ever truly just be friends.

During one of their conversations, in a scene that has become a classic in cinema, Sally shows off her orgasm-faking skills to Harry across lunch at a busy deli when he claims none of the women he’s been with have ever merely pretended to climax.

With Ryan’s performance ending in a repeated chorus of ‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’ amid plenty of banging the table with her hand – much to Harry’s embarrassment – the sequence is then perfectly topped off when a woman who’s watched the whole scene unfold tells a waitress: ‘I’ll have what she’s having.’

During a recent interview, Ryan, 61, revealed that she had discussed it that very day with her son, actor Jack Quaid, 31, and 19-year-old daughter, Daisy True Ryan.

‘It’s funny, my son just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli [where the scene was shot].’

‘My daughter was here and everybody was on speaker, and they were like, “Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment”,’ Ryan told Carol Burnett, who was chatting to her for Interview Magazine before the Sag-Aftra strike.

She continued: ‘He said, “You know you can go into that deli and there’s an arrow pointing down to the table where you shot that scene.”’

Having said that it’s embarrassing, as many people would expect of Ryan’s children, her son actually has been quite sweet about it before too.

In 2018, he revealed he’d finally seen When Harry Met Sally for the first time.

‘Guys, when your mother has one of the most famous orgasm scenes of all time, you do not jump to the film, okay?’ he explained during a panel for Entertainment Weekly.

However, Jack then quickly fell in love with it too after he watched it, calling it his ‘favourite of hers’.

He added: ‘I saw it because I was doing a rom-com, and that’s like the rom-com, and I watched it, and then afterwards I cried for so long, because I was so proud of her, and I immediately called her, and I’m like, “I’m so sorry I missed this movie.” She’s like, “I’ve seen it like one time.”’

Jack is Ryan’s son whom she shares with ex-husband, Hollywood actor Dennis Quaid, 69.

The pair were married for a decade until 2001.

In January 2006, Ryan adopted Daisy True from China when she was 14 months old.

The star is set to make her return to rom-coms after 14 years away – and nearly a decade’s break from films overall – in What Happens Later.

She last appeared in a rom-com in 2009 with Serious Moonlight, alongside Timothy Hutton, Justin Long and Kristen Bell.

In the film, she stars as Willa while David Duchovny plays Bill – the pair are ex-lovers that will see each other for the first time in years when they both find themselves snowed in, in-transit, at an airport overnight.
