Garden Rescue: Charlie Dimmock discusses pond plants
Charlie Dimmock was one of TV’s most famous faces in the 1990s but then virtually disappeared from our screens.
Ground Force was one of the biggest shows of the time – with fans loving the rapport between Charlie, Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh.
Thankfully Charlie has been back on TV in recent years and it’s as if she’s never been away. A
Away from her TV appearances, Charlie once shared how she had no regrets about her relationship with a Ground Force co-star.
The presenter looked back on this time in her life shortly after the affair went public in an unearthed chat.
Charlie dated viticulturist John Mushet in the 1990s for 13 years.
The couple lived in Hampshire together after meeting when they were both in New Zealand in the late eighties.
However, the couple split up in 2001 after Charlie had a short relationship with her Ground Force colleague.
She briefly dated microphone operator Andy Simmons who worked on the gardening show with her.
Opening up about the romance in 2002, she said: “I don’t see Andy anymore, but I don’t regret what happened.
“You wouldn’t do anything if you kept worrying about what might go wrong.”
Charlie went on to admit she found it difficult to come to terms with the split.
“John and I had been together for a long time so when we split up I relied heavily on family and close friends,” she added to the Daily Mail.

“I’ve discovered that the most difficult after-effect of the break-up is getting into another relationship.”
Now Charlie is best known as the presenter of the BBC series Garden Rescue.
She returned to our screens earlier this year with the latest episodes of the series.
The presenter is not thought to currently be in a relationship.
Speaking back in 2014 to the Daily Mail, she explained she was “content” without a man in her life.
Charlie also told the Irish Independent in 2016 how she was “past marriage”.
She said: “I’m way past marriage at this point.
“I’m going to be 50 this year. Even sharing a house with someone would be a no for me.
“I like my own company. I like to do what I want to do, I’m very selfish like that.
“I don’t mind fitting in a bit, but I like to be able to get away and have the house to myself.”
Elsewhere, Charlie reflected on her Ground Force days and becoming known for not wearing bras.
The star admitted she was once chided by Esther Rantzen over her braless appearance.
She explained back in 2014: “TV presenter Esther Rantzen said to me, ‘You’ll be labelled the bra-less one for the rest of your life.’
“Ground Force was a long time ago, and I have to say, even now, people will bring it up. It is very silly.”
