A mum who lost a parking ticket has slammed staff for allegedly refusing to let her leave to collect her daughter from nursery.
Maria Bensley had been to the gym and parked in Gracechurch Centre car park in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.
The desperate mum said she ended up pleading with staff after mislaying her parking ticket and having no means to pay to get out to fetch her two-year-old daughter.
Usually gym members can validate their ticket and get their parking for free.
The 33-year-old mum eventually called her husband who managed to contact management and end the stand-off last Thursday.
Maria said: “I was told I wasn’t being let out and was left crying, with my daughter left with no one to pick her up.
"The Gracechurch car park man… (was) saying he couldn’t lift the barrier without a ticket.”
The mum phoned her husband who offered to pay by card but claimed staff refused to give her a number to make payment, reports Birmingham Live.
Maria, who runs a children’s catering business, said: “I got in the Gracechurch Centre car park about 11.50am on Thursday.
“I usually have my ticket in my coat pocket or in my gym bag but I mislaid it. I don’t take my purse.
“I was there just under an hour. I hadn’t validated the ticket at the gym because I’d lost it before I’d left. I’d looked in the gym locker and my bag. I looked everywhere for it.
“It has happened once before. Probably about a year ago. I pressed the buzzer and a woman checked my registration number. You’re only allowed two hours parking when you go to the gym. And I was let out.
“I thought I will just do the same as before. I pressed the help button. They said ‘you are going to have to come in and pay’. I said I didn’t have any money on me and they told me I would have to pay some way.”
Maria spoke to a ‘young guy’ in the office and another staff member who she says refused to tell her who was in charge or give her any numbers to call to make a payment.
The tearful mum was increasingly desperate and called the police who said it was a civil matter.
