Aussie boss Michael Cheika says Eddie Jones deserves a new four-year England contract – not criticism.

Cheika is amazed that Jones’ future has been under scrutiny after presiding over six defeats in 2018.

“Call me thick but I can’t understand why he’s been getting grief,” said the Wallabies head coach.

“How many games has he won here with England? What about the job he did after the World Cup? Maybe they’re giving him grief because he’s an Aussie.

“The team’s ranked fourth in the world, playing lots of good footy, so I’m not sure what people are looking for. Perfection? That’s never happening. You win some games, you lose some games.

“He’s definitely won more games than he’s lost so I’d be wrapping him up and signing him up for another four years.”

Cheika’s Pom-appreciation ended there as he accused England of being serial offenders when it comes to late hits.

He believes they look to illegally disrupt the Wallabies backline and wants ref Jaco Peyper to stamp out the practice.

Cheika said: ”We know they are going to consistently target Bernard Foley and Matt To’omua, and the half-back, post-delivery. It is something we have to deal with.

"They probably think they can get to us if they can get to those guys. They probably think they can get us rattled.

"They have had a few wins the last couple of years here so it is probably working. We have got to make sure we get on top of that.”
