Tonnes of live Australian lobsters are stranded on the tarmac at Chinese airports, possibly the latest victims of escalating tensions with our biggest trading partner.

Agriculture minister David Littleproud said between 50 and 100 per cent of Australian rock lobsters arriving in China are currently subject to inspection. Chinese authorities say it is over concerns of trace elements of metals.

Exporters of beef, barley and wine have already been caught in rising tensions between Australia and China in recent months, and Australian lobster fisheries, already smashed by the coronavirus pandemic, are deeply concerned about what's next.
