A Meghan Markle super fan has revealed how a kind gesture from the former actress changed her life for the better.
Emily Sorrells, from Tampa, Florida, stuck up an unlikely friendship with Meghan over social media in 2011, with the pair eventually meeting in New York City in March 2016.
Prior to joining the royal family, Meghan regularly exchanged messages and even handwritten letters with the Groucher College student, calling her ‘delightful’ and ‘inspiring’.
Describing the Duchess of Sussex as her ‘inspiration’, Emily has penned a heartfelt tribute on her blog explaining how their friendship has changed her life.
The student said she was ‘walking mound of self-doubt and anxiety,’ until she ‘found the inspiration in Meghan Markle that taught me the meaning of confidence and gave me a new definition of value for myself’.

She said that Meghan’s words of encouragement had not only bolstered her confidence but inspired her to carry out humanitarian work in Costa Rica.
The pair eventually came face to face when Emily went to watch her live interview at AOL HQ in New York in March 2016 – around four months before Meghan met Prince Harry for the first time – and sat on the front row.

‘She truly values her fans and made that very clear when she sacrificed a portion of her interview for ME. I am still astonished that she is a real life human.
‘Celebrities tend to be idolized and glorified by their fans, leading to disappointment with reality, but this is not the case with Meghan Markle.
‘She is a genuinely caring and wonderful human being who’s positive disposition and dedication to helping others makes this world a better place each and every day.’
Emily added: ‘She has proven to me that she is, in fact, a caring and genuine human being. She is not fake for the cameras or trying to portray something different than her real self to the media. She is just lovely.’
The fan has previously revealed that she has tried to contact Meghan via post at Kensington Palace, but claimed her letter was ‘not accepted’.
Before swapping Hollywood for Kensington Palace, Meghan regularly swapped messages with her fans.
Last year she was reunited with Hannah Sergel, a young woman who confided about her health battle with Meghan before she became a royal.
Hannah met the astonished Duchess of Sussex in person after she spotted her among the crowds in New Zealand during her Pacific tour.
