DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER seeing a man I met online just a handful of times for a kiss and a cuddle, I felt I couldn’t live without him. What’s going on with me?

I am 49 and divorced. This guy is 53 and married, so I knew he just wanted a fling. We only ever met up in his car but I wanted more.

He kept texting and getting annoyed that I wouldn’t invite him over. But I couldn’t, as my grown-up daughter with special needs lives with me. I got stressed out and told him it was over.

Then I became an emotional wreck and begged him to take me back. He said to back off and blocked me.

I felt like I’d lost a best friend but I hardly knew him.

DEIDRE SAYS: Caring for your daughter must be very demanding, no matter how much you love her, and limits your options for meeting another partner.

I can understand your feeling of desperation.

Finding understanding support for your role could ease that so you can then explore expanding your social life more calmly.

Carers UK has an online forum and helpline (, 0808 808 7777) and my e-leaflet Widening Your Social Life has lots of ideas.
