I’m an only child and have always been close to my mum. I want her to be there each step of the way.

I’m a woman of 21 and my fiance is 22. We are having major rows as he says the wedding is becoming all about what Mum wants.

She just wants me to have the best day. I love all our chats about how things will be. She and my dad are paying a share of the costs, so I think it’s only fair that I ask her opinion.

I’ve cried so much over this and have tried to explain but my fiance won’t listen.

DEIDRE SAYS: It sounds like he is jealous – perhaps even feels threatened – by that lovely close bond you have with your mum. What is his relationship with his own mother like?

But it is his wedding as well as yours, rather than your mum’s. Maybe put your mum in charge of frocks and flowers, for instance, but do the major planning with the man who is going to be your life partner.
