Jersey Shore: Family Vacation has become a surprise hit for MTV and is one of the most-watched shows on the network. The show documents the lives and fortunes of some of the original stars of Jersey Shore, five years after the original season ended its iconic run.
With humor, sarcasm, and a heaping helping of drama, the roommates are confronted with how their lives have changed. One cast member who has undergone perhaps the greatest amount of struggle is Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, the 33-year old reality star who has made headlines for his tumultuous relationship, and most recently, for his stint in rehab.

While all the cast members have faced up to their demons in one way or another, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has had an especially challenging few years. The 33-year old star began dating Jenn Harley in 2017, following the ending of a long-term, volatile relationship with fellow Jersey Shore cast member Sammi, known as Sammi “Sweetheart.”
Ortiz-Magro and Harley dated for less than a year before breaking the news they were expecting a baby in late 2017. That was when Ortiz-Magro really started to experience the whirlwind of stress and turmoil that has been the hallmark of his life for the past several years.
They welcomed a baby girl in April 2018, and shortly after the birth of Ariana Sky Magro, Ortiz-Magro and Harley started spiraling out of control. The two took to social media to voice their frustrations with the other (Ortiz-Magro calling out Harley for supposed infidelity and Harley referring to the new father as a “cokehead”) and following the Instagram outbursts, their altercations turned physical.
On June 24th, 2018, Harley was arrested for domestic battery, following a fight between her and Ortiz-Magro. That incident was only the first in a series of verbal and physical outbursts that have characterized the pair’s relationship. Currently, Ortiz-Magro and Harley are in what seems to be an on-off relationship. It is likely that his relationship problems have contributed in part to Ortiz-Magro’s struggles with sobriety.
What did Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino do to influence Ortiz-Magro’s sobriety?

At the end of 2018, Ortiz-Magro seemed to realize that he needed to better his situation, and with the support of his family and friends, entered a rehab facility. He stayed in treatment for several months and was released in early February 2018. The decision to get treatment for his alcohol abuse and depression was one that Ortiz-Magro admitted he struggled with, but as he said in a recent interview, he knew he had to get sober in order to give his young daughter a better life.
His daughter wasn’t the only one that influenced his decision to enter rehab. Ortiz-Magro’s longtime friend and cast member, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino played a big role as well. Ortiz-Magro admitted that Sorrentino’s friendship, positive attitude, and dedication to a healthy lifestyle gave him the push he needed to take the next step and enroll in the rehabilitation program. Ortiz-Magro even refers to his friend as “The Inspiration” now and says that he is deeply grateful for his ever-constant presence and support.

Ortiz Magro still has many hurdles to cross, and while the battle to stay sober can be a lifelong challenge, hopefully, he has received the support he needs in order to create a better life for himself and for his young daughter. Fans of Jersey Shore: Family Reunion can catch up with Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and the rest of the crew when it returns for a third season later this year (release date still to be determined.)
