A girlfriend gave her boyfriend a surprise for his birthday that definitely wasn’t on his wish list – a t-shirt with her face on it and a warning to other girls, to ‘stay away’ from her man.

Holly Cockerill from Manchester bought her boyfriend Karl Hennan the T-shirt to wear for his birthday night out, to make sure other girls knew he was taken.

Holly, who has been dating Karl for seven years, shared a hilarious snap to Twitter of Karl wearing the t-shirt, while she stood behind him grinning. 

She quickly racked up 12,000 likes, but some Twitter users didn’t quite get the joke, labelling it ‘toxic’ and calling her insecure.

She posted the picture, which racked up 12,000 likes, of him wearing it to Twitter, with the T-shirt warning off other girls who may be looking at her ‘man’

The original tweet, which has had over 12,000 likes and nearly 2,000 retweets showed two pictures, one of Holly standing behind Karl grinning as he rolled his eyes while wearing the T-shirt.

The other was a close up the the shirt, with a picture of Holly on it and a message which said: ‘If your reading this you’ve been looking at my man for too long.

‘And this is how Id’ be looking at you if I was here. Hi, I’m Holly, his GIRLFRIEND!’

Holly, who has been dating Karl for 7 years, shared the hilarious snap of her and her boyfriend, with him wearing the t-shirt, while she stood behind him grinning

Holly says that the post and T-shirt was a joke and she wasn’t really going to make him wear it out

The funny post soon racked up over 12,000 likes and more than 1,300 comments. But some didn’t seem to see the funny side of the joke post.

One person, who wasn’t a fan of the idea, commented: ‘How insecure… do you have to be’, while another said: ‘How toxic, OMG.’

While another adapted the photo, giving Holly devil eyes and ears and adding in fire around the couple.

Most did see the funny side though, with one retweeting her post and commenting on it saying: ‘Twitter is the best for giving us these ideas.’

She later responded to comments about the post saying: ‘People going mad at the fact I got my boyfriend a top with my face on for a joke. 

‘If you think for one second I’m going make him wear it then your absolutely f****n right. Joke – it will be in bin after.’
