Gigi Hadid keeps it simple when it comes to skincare. So simple, in fact, that she only just got her first facial a few weeks ago.
In a video for Vogue, the 23-year-old Victoria’s Secret model played a game of “Two Truths and a Lie” alongside some of her fellow Angels, challenging Shanina Shaik to guess whether she was lying about getting her first facial that week, studying criminal psychology in college or being a natural brunette.
Of course, Hadid is a lifelong blonde who loves “Law & Order” — meaning that her confession about visiting a facialist for the first time prior to the lingerie brand’s annual runway show is true. Still, it’s a semi-shocking statement from a woman whose face is literally her livelihood.
But according to an interview Hadid did with Into the Gloss, she’s really not into skincare at all, preferring to keep things low maintenance. “I wash my face with the cheap stuff from CVS,” she said. “Whenever I run out I just go and pick whichever one I think looks the coolest or smells good” — which at the time was St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub and Eucerin Intensive Repair Very Dry Skin Lotion.
And in 2015, the supermodel told W magazine, “I hate facials. I am so scared of them. I don’t want someone touching my face. I get claustrophobic. No, I would never try a vampire facial, that sounds so creepy.”
Clearly, the best remedy to this aesthetician aversion is a little exposure therapy.
