Eden has offered a first look at what it has planned for Eden Project North as it unveils the first designs for the attraction it hopes to open in Morecambe, Lancashire.
Artists’ impressions offer a sneak peek of what the seafront venture which would be connected to the area’s spectacular Morecambe Bay and its spectacular natural landscape.
Fitting in with the seaside theme, Eden Project North would include five pavilions shaped to look like mussels, each one hosting a different environment for visitors to explore.
Meanwhile, the seafront location would offer picturesque views of the landscape, while visitors could make their way down a large path right to the water’s edge.
The idea is to combine both indoor and outdoor experiences, ranging from lidos and gardens, to performance spaces and observatories, alongside a plethora of immersive experiences.
Eden is working with architecture firm Grimshaw on the project, the same company who designed its world-famous Rainforest and Mediterranean Biomes.
The new designs were presented by the environmental charity to its northern partners, following the completion of a feasibility study which they ran back in September.
The area it’s looking to take over was formerly occupied by attractions including the Bubbles swimming pool and Dome theatre.
Eden Project North would follow on from the already world-famous Eden Project in Cornwall, which has welcomed more than 20 million visitors since first opening its doors in 2001.
In fact, Eden says that the attraction has contributed £2billion to the local economy.
It aims to offer a similar regeneration of the Morecambe region across social, economical and environmental factors.
Dave Harland, chief executive of Eden Project International Limited, said: "We’re incredibly proud to present our vision for Eden Project North and hope that the people of Morecambe and the surrounding area are as excited about it as we are.
"We aim to reimagine what a seaside destination can offer, with a world-class tourist attraction that is completely in tune with its natural surroundings.
"Morecambe is a unique and beautiful location, perfectly situated near the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. It’s so heartening to be working with partners who share our ambitions and aspirations for the town and region."
