DEAR DEIDRE: I WAS looking forward to the birth of my baby but my partner and my family are insisting we call her Felicity-May after my partner’s late mother and my late grandmother.

My partner and my parents were chatting and decided on this name, and my bump is now referred to as “Flick”. I hate it!

I have a list of girls’ names I love but my partner just says, “No, I hate that name” or “No, someone in school had that name and nobody liked her”.

My partner has two kids already so it’s not like he’s never named a child before.

The name issue is causing us to row. I’m 27 and he’s 33.

DEIDRE SAYS: Choosing a name is your and your partner’s decision and you should settle on a name you both like, never mind your family’s views.

Ask him to draw up a short-list of ten names and you do the same.

There may be one you both like. If not, do it again with new names until you find a compromise.

My e-leaflet called Standing Up For Yourself can teach you assertiveness techniques so you can be firm no baby of yours is going to be called Flick.
